COVID19 statement

COVID-19 Update: I will now be offering all clients the option to meet online via video conferencing software rather than face to face. This is in response to the World Health Organization confirming the Coronavirus as a pandemic, and to follow the guidance issued by the NHS and the UK Government relating to social distancing. I will continue to offer counselling and psychotherapy during this difficult, uncertain and worrying time.

Telephone and online support is different to face to face therapy. If you are new to this world and are seeking help it is advisable to be very careful about choosing an online practitioner. There are many charlatans in the marketplace claiming to be qualified therapists when they are not. If you are seeking a professionally qualified counsellor/therapist start your search on recognised reputable member directories such as the Counselling Directory or Psychology Today. These platforms allow only suitably qualified practitioners to advertise on their site. In addition, check if they are professionally accredited, not just registered. Professionally accredited practitioners will have needed to satisfy more stringent criteria to meet accreditation requirements than those merely registered. Accredited members will also have had to demonstrate a commitment to clinical supervision, and an ethical code, and meet requirements for continuing professional development.

This current health crisis could be extended into the foreseeable future. It is dealing with the unknowns that is perhaps fueling a sense of panic in the population at large. This period of time could be extremely challenging for people with pre-existing conditions. The normal routines might not be available when one is faced with one’s inner demons, relationship difficulties, unhappy home life or hidden addictions. It is, therefore, vital that a commitment is made to boosting one’s self-care regime and social support structure during this difficult time. See my article on staying sane during a period of social isolation on counselling directory for ideas on boosting your self care regime.

If you are new to this world of therapy and have any questions about the process of online support I would be happy to have a brief conversation with you by telephone. You can call me on 07852407140.
