Counselling & psychotherapy in London Bridge SE1

Noel Bell is an integrative counsellor/psychotherapist based at the Psychosynthesis Trust 92-94 Tooley St SE1 2TH at London Bridge, close to More London.

I offer both individual and couples counselling. I can see you for short or long term treatment for a range of issues including anxiety, depression, addictions, relationship issues, career change and life transitions.

Sitting in the therapy room can be a truly unique experience. Having someone dedicated to listening to you can be a transformative process. However, unlike the therapy process for therapists in therapy schools, there is no actual training manual for how to be a client in therapy. Clients often ask what the therapy essentially involves. You might wonder what it’s all about and what you are supposed to be doing when seeing a therapist especially if you have had no prior experience. You may be wondering which tools and techniques will be employed and how long will it take. These questions are in addition to the basic questions of how much it will cost, which gender should your therapist be, their modality and their particular ways of working.

A lot of counsellors and therapists will have had their own personal therapy journey either through their own life journey, or as part of an accreditation process in their professional training. Most will, therefore, know exactly what it feels like to be in the client seat and, therefore, should be able to help put you at ease. A reasonable question for any prospective therapist is whether they have had their own personal therapy journey or not.

I am registered and accredited as a psychotherapist with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). The UKCP is the UK’s professional body for the education, training and accreditation of psychotherapists.I am also registered with Counselling Directory (click on the link to see my profile). I have had my own personal therapy experience throughout my training.

I trained at Counselling Centre for Psychotherapy Education (CCPE), the largest integrative transpersonal training centre in Europe, based in London. I describe myself as integrative as I combine tools and techniques from a number of modalities to help best serve the interests and needs of my clients. I believe that it is important to see each client as a unique human being and to resist the temptation to fit issues and symptoms into theoretical frameworks.

Prior to my retraining in counselling and psychotherapy I was a management consultant in IT procurement and am fully familiar with the pressures and stresses from corporate culture. I can help you to gain clarity on your life decisions, the impact of your choices and your pattern in relationships. I have helped clients suffering from work-related stress, anxiety, depression, addictions and relationship issues.

My focus is on creating the fertile ground for personal well-being and creativity so that my clients can live a whole and satisfying life as possible. I am committed to ethical, non-discriminatory practice and continuing professional development. I abide by the principles and ethical framework of the BACP and the UKCP.

Feeling good rapport with your therapist is very important. A lot of research would appear to indicate that you need to feel at ease with your therapist in order for good therapeutic outcomes to be realised. In therapy language this is when a good therapeutic alliance is achieved. In other words you feel heard and are not subject to standardised platitudes based on highly speculative formulations. You can chat with your therapist without feeling they are judging you or waiting for their time to speak in order to impose their agenda. It is important to feel comfortable with your therapist so that you can reveal more of your personal material. If you feel that you will be judged by them if you bring certain aspects of your life then the therapy will be limiting.

Whilst good rapport is very conducive to positive therapeutic outcomes it is also worth remembering that you should not be aiming to be best friends with your therapist. You are contracting with a professional person who has no vested interest in the outcome of your decision making and where it should be safe to explore key vulnerabilities and current life choices. The constancy of therapy sessions can help to provide a containing space to allow you to explore unconscious material within a safe environment.

Call Noel now on 07852 407140 to book an appointment. I will aim to return your call within 24 hours. We can then discuss location, time of day, frequency of sessions and fees.
