I can also help with life transitions and career change. Prior to my own retraining, I was a management consultant working in local and central government. I hold an MA in Modern European Studies from London Metropolitan University and a BA (Hons) History with Political Studies from Middlesex University. I decided to retrain in counselling and psychotherapy in 2009.

I can see you for a range of issues including difficulties at work, family difficulties and loss of hope. I specialise in the treatment of addictions principally drugs and alcohol, gambling and sex addiction.

Drugs and alcohol

I use CBT techniques to overcome addictive processes and have over 20 years experience of using the 12 steps of recovery for personal growth and transformation.

Counselling and psychotherapy can offer a safe and confidential space for you to discuss the impacts of your drinking or drug taking and to explore why it is you are doing it. It is my experience that the ABC Model and anti procrastination exercises can facilitate change and new ways of being.

I believe that an integrative approach to counselling and psychotherapy is effective as addictions can be seen as an existential crisis brought about by loss of meaning in life. Re-establishing a relationship to life’s givens can begin a journey of personal discovery. This is where the transpersonal approach can be useful as it helps to uncover myths, life scripts and archetypes. The constancy of therapy sessions can help to provide a containing space to allow you to explore unconscious material within a safe environment.

Problem gambling

Problem gambling can preoccupy your thinking and creative energy once it takes hold. I have worked as a helpline advisor at the national charity Gamcare, which provides support, information and advice to anyone suffering through a gambling problem. I am fully familiar with a range of tools and techniques including the 12 steps of recovery model for overcoming problem gambling, mindfulness and behavioural change. I can help problem gamblers, day traders and spread betters.

Sex addiction

Sex addiction is a process addiction and can be similar in nature to gambling. Listen here to my interview with Paula Hall about seeking help for overcoming issues with sex addiction. I use tools and techniques to explore past trauma, grief and mourning. Exploring the drama triangle can be an effective way of uncovering unconscious processing in relationships.

I am based at 48 Newlands Park which is within easy reach of Penge, Crystal Palace and Dulwich and the location is well served by public transport connections. Sydenham station is a 5 minutes walk and has London Overground services to Forest Hill, Honor Oak and Brockley, in addition to the National Rail network. Penge East station is also 5 minutes walk away with National Rail connections to West Dulwich, Kent House, Beckenham and Bromley South. Buses 194 and 75 directly serve Newlands Park.
