Low cost Counselling in London

Do you wish to find a list of London-based counselling organisations that offer free or low cost counselling? It is difficult to find a comprehensive list but if you look hard enough there are options out there.

Help Counselling offers short term counselling and is based in Portobello Road, Notting Hill Gate, West London. Help Counselling can be reached by telephoning 020 7221 9974 or 020 7221 7914. Note, however, that the organisation operates a waiting list.

There are also training centres that may be able to provide low cost counselling and psychotherapy by students under supervision. For example, ‘The Caravan Drop In‘ is a low cost counselling service provided by therapists in training from the CCPE and operates out of a caravan provided by St. James’s Church in Piccadilly. Note that the service is drop in, there is no booking system.

How much will it cost?

Organisations that offer low cost counselling usually operate a means-related sliding scale of fees based on your personal circumstances or they may also ask for a donation. It is also worth noting that some private practice counselling services also offer concessionary fees. Invariably there will be a waiting list for concessionary places that you can join but it is certainly worth exploring.

You should also note that your GP may be able to put you in touch with a qualified counsellor as low cost counselling centres in the voluntary sector often take referrals from primary care. GP practices often have close links with such centres.
