Paddington is an area in West London that has witnessed massive regeneration over recent years. Paddington is also where CCPE is based – the largest training centre for transpersonal psychotherapy in the UK. This area was where some famous analysts worked. Donald Winnicott obtained a post as physician at the Paddington Green Children’s Hospital where he practiced as a pediatrician and child psychoanalyst for 40 years and was trained by Melanie Klein.

St. Mary’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service is based in Paddington and is part of Central and North West London (CNWL) NHS Foundation Trust. Referrals to this multi-disciplinary team are derived from from GP practices and the local St Mary’s Hospital (the paediatrics and casualty units). Some referrals also come from the Social Services department of the London Borough of Westminster as well as other agencies. The specialist areas of the service include the following areas: management of psychosomatic disorders such as fatigue syndrome and eating disorders, refugee mental health, liaison with services for young people with conduct problems, neuropsychiatry and learning disability,liaison with paediatrics and parent management training.
